Grieving in Motion: Movement Community Launches in Wellesley

Under the leadership of local facilitator Niki Pugach, E-Motion, and the Parmenter Foundation invite widows and widowers to a new Movement Community in Wellesley, MA starting May 1, 2024. This Movement Community is an 8 week, movement-based community for anyone who has experienced the life-disrupting loss of a partner. It is free of cost to all participants thanks to the generous support of the Parmenter Foundation.

E-Motion Movement Communities bring together groups of bereaved individuals to move with - as opposed to move on from - grief and loss. With guidance from a trained facilitator, E-Motion’s pillars of movement, ritual, and community are made experiential through intentional grief practices.

E-motion is very unique to me because of the people I have met. It helped a lot that it was centered around an activity that we did together every Sunday. It wasn’t just sitting around and talking about our grief, but we were actually experiencing it in a physical form and sharing it with other people as we were running together. -Rajeev, Movement Community member, Boston

Every weekly session opens with a sacred circle and includes a walk or movement-based activity. Members also receive personalized weekly intentions, workouts, reflection prompts, and words of wisdom from scholars, poets, and ordinary people. The experience closes with a culminating, non-competitive, walk or run together.

This Movement Communities are open to individuals who self-identify with the group’s theme. If you know a widow or widower who would benefit from the Wellesley Movement Community experience, please spread the word.
