E-Motion to lead youth sports mental health initiative during Copa America

Create the Space, a first-of-its-kind mental health initiative co-founded by Common Goal USA and FOX Sports, announced a new series of mental health workshops for youth soccer players and coaches to be held this summer in conjunction with Copa America. E-Motion, alongside Atlanta-based non-profit Soccer in the Streets, will lead the design and delivery of training series, continuing its role as an expert partner for Create the Space.

E-motion is a grief-informed, therapeutic approach designed to equip and empower communities to move together through hardships. Its programs combine movement, community, and ritual to strengthen resilience and capacity to cope, while unlocking the power of communities to move with hard things. E-Motion teamed up with Common Goal USA and FOX Sports to deliver the first Create the Space retreat in January 2024 with players from the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), and has continued to build on momentum from the retreat to expand Create the Space’s reach and impact.

“Nearly a year after the launch of our collective movement alongside the 2023 Women’s World Cup, we are again harnessing the power of mega sporting events to provide youth in under-resourced communities across the United States with critical skills to better support themselves and their teammates,” said Lilli Barrett-O’Keefe, Executive Director of Common Goal USA.
