Grief in Motion: Movement Community Launches in Los Angeles

E-Motion invites grievers in Los Angeles who have experienced the life-disrupting loss of a child to join the upcoming Movement Community starting Sunday, June 2nd. This is a ten week experience for people of all fitness levels to move with one another in community.

Once per week, members will come together for a walk and will be led through intentional grief practices. The group will provide community where otherwise there is often isolation. At the end of the experience, participants will participate in a culminating 5k walk together. The experience will be led by Courtney Collier, a trained E-Motion Facilitator.

E-Motion Movement Communities bring together groups of bereaved individuals to move with - as opposed to move on from - grief and loss. E-Motion’s pillars of movement, ritual, and community are made experiential through intentional grief practices.

“Before E-Motion, I had always grieved in isolation. In terms of the physical part of it, I’m 60 years old. I had stopped running simply because I thought I was old. Old people walk they don’t run. So to think that I can run and that I’m having fun with the process has a lot to do with the support and encouragement that I’ve received through E-Motion.” - Maria, Movement Community member, Boston

Every weekly session opens with a sacred circle and includes a walk or movement-based activity. Members also receive personalized weekly intentions, workouts, reflection prompts, and words of wisdom from scholars, poets, and ordinary people. The experience closes with a culminating, non-competitive, walk or run together.

This Movement Communities are open to individuals who self-identify with the group’s theme. If you know someone would benefit from the Los Angeles Movement Community experience, please spread the word.
